Robb, I've been trying to figure out how to talk about Substack vs. LinkedIn for about six months now, and I have not been able to articulate it as clearly as you just did. This is fantastic! I do believe that Substack and LinkedIn are probably two of the more valuable places to spend time for those of us creating content, building relationships, and looking to actually enjoy a civilized social experience. Nicely done, sir.
Thanks, Liam, you're too kind. I'm working on a strategy for using both, but it's still in pretty heavy workshopping. Should have more on that in two weeks (on vacay for much of next week).
100% man! I came to sub stack through a different path, looking to lean more into my digital writing rather than using it as expanded territory to build my brand.
That being said, I have been starting to see a lot of of the same LinkedIn influencers pop up on my feed recently!
Thatβs exactly whatβs happening. Substack used to be just a newsletter platform. Now itβs becoming that + a social network. The fact that itβs got a feed now that most people donβt even know exists reminds me of how LinkedIn was in 2015. Super bullish
I can't argue with this. While I'm not leaving, I'm interested to see if the number of people leaving it will increase. The ones who have left are vocal about it.
I helped them find 2 serious vulnerabilities on their platform, one saw LEMPO spewing user names and passwords of people on their platform to the world. LinkedIn validated my findings and made it quietly go away. Iβve called out over 400 (in) creators, with proof, of pod use. This includes over 100 (in) blue badges I was in the same pod with. Nothing. People like Stephen Bartlett, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Grant Cardoneβ¦ Crickets. Artificial Ignorance at its finest. I even wrote a #1 international bestseller about it. It remains #1 even after 6 months.
I am using both at the moment and it's been great! Also worth mentioning the "window of opportunity" we have here on Substack - other platforms cannot offer this growth anymore.
Iβve got a huge following on LinkedIn and even Iβm tired of it and flirting with Substack. Iβm hoping itβll be worth the time investment!
The best thing you can do (if you have time) is to give it a try. It's not like LinkedIn is gong anywhere!

Almost feels like a digital land grab

I can say, 100%, (in) cares only about (in) not its community. I left after 27 years.

Wow - LinkedIn can be very disappointing (being polite here) as an organization to the detriment of its users. And the pod thing makes my blood boil.
17, not 27
I think pretty much the same.

The "window of opportunity" here is a great point and one that I'll be sure to mention in the future. Great insight, Emanuel... thanks!
